Happy March 2021 fellow Central Arizona Association of Continuity Professionals!

Pretty exciting times for business continuity professionals so far this year. Over the last two months we have seen our peers respond to incidents from our nation’s capital, SolarWinds cyber- attack, personal preparedness planning issues, mass casualty traffic accidents, food and natural gas shortages, and millions without power, water and the ability to continue day-today operations. Not the way most of us wished to see this year start out.

On a positive note we are witnessing a positive trend in the case rates per 100,000, percent positivity, and COVID-like illness as a percentage of hospital visits as reported by Maricopa County Public Health tracker. Too, the number of vaccinations administered are on the rise due to the efforts of many healthcare professionals to rollout COVID-19 vaccinations for Phase 1A and 1B eligible individuals at large venues, local pharmacies, and mobile resources.

On March 2, I volunteered with the Arizona State University Research Enterprise (ASURE) in a non-clinical role supporting the Phoenix Municipal Stadium COVID-19 vaccination site staff.

Following my shift, I was able to receive the first round of the Pfizer COVID vaccine. I’ll let you know soon how that went. I’m hopeful and optimistic that if we all do our part we will persevere.

To wind down this communication I hope you were able to watch some of the Mars 2020 NASA rover landing on February 18. Talk about Perseverance (pun intended), a team of dedicated people set their site high and launched a terrestrial rover and small robotic helicopter to Mars on July 30, 2020.When Perseverance landed, I watched a media feed, sweaty palms, anxious and hopeful for success. When it landed successfully, I had tears of joy pouring from my eyes and as my body relaxed, I felt pride fill my heart. This team success is what I needed to see to restore my soul.

My sincere wish is that each of you find a little something that lifts you up and makes you feel part of something amazing. We’ve all had trying times this last year, professionally, personally, perhaps lost a loved one or suffered in some way. Stay strong find the beat again and get back to your best you! Persevere my fellow members… I believe in each of you.

Respectfully,

Steve Westwood
