Topic: Health Threats, Challenges and Options - Disruption to your Organization

Join us for this executive briefing by our Virginia Department of Health (VDH) professionals, which features first-hand, current information on the top global and local health threats identified by the CDC and the VDH that can impact our business, government, and non-profit organizations. Our interactive discussion with Nancy Welch and Lisa Engle will focus on recognizing the practical impacts of emerging and long-term health issues and developing the resiliency needed to address health-related disruptions. Our speakers will discuss current concerns, specific scenarios and constructive options for our business community, your organization, and you personally - and they're happy to answer all your questions!

NANCY M. WELCH, MD, MHA, MBA
Director, Virginia Department of health, Chesapeake Health Department

Dr. Welch has served as a public health director in Virginia since 1976.  Her major professional focus is utilizing data analysis as a persuasive motivator to actively engage individuals, organizations and communities in healthier lifestyle habits.  She received her B.S. at Lynchburg College, Degree in Medicine at Duke University, a Master of Public Health degree at University of Colorado, and an M.B.A. at Old Dominion University, and is board-certified.  Nancy is also a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve.  She serves on a variety of boards/committees developing community programs that enhance the health status and quality of life for our citizens.

LISA ENGLE, MPH
Epidemiologist, Virginia Department of Health, Chesapeake Health District

Lisa has over 15 years' experience with communicable disease, both as an epidemitologist and as an infection control preventionist with Sentara Hospital in Virginia Beach.  She earned a B.S. in Business from Columbia Union College in Maryland and a Master of Public Health degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School.

TOPIC:       VDEM's New Emergency Evacuation Plan - Know Your Zone!!! Update Your Plan!!!

OUR SPEAKER: Bruce Sterling, Regional Coordinator, Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM)
On the brink of hurricane season (June 1st through November 30th) when hurricanes, tropical storms and depressions threaten our area, join us as Bruce Sterling discusses the new VDEM emergency evacuation plan for coastal Virginia, which was developed in close cooperation with the region's local emergency managers and affects more than 1.2 million people.  The plan's goal is to simplify evacuation using tiered evacuation zones based on the most up-to-date engineering data for Virginia's coastal areas.  Bruce will explain how risk to communities is determined and assessed, how the new evacuation zone processes function, and practical implications for you and your organization - and he will gladly answer your questions!  Bruce has served as Regional Coordinator for VDEM for the past 15 years, including 8 years as the Region 2 Coordinator in Culpepper, VA.  He responded to assist after Hurricane Charley in Florida (2004), Rita in Louisiana (2005), and Ike (2008), and his local responses include several hurricanes, the Louisa earthquake, and the Virginia Tech shooting.  As the Region 5 Chief Regional Coordinator, he oversees the VDEM Region 5 office and its staff of 7 emergency management professionals, prioviding support to localities in the Hampton Roads area and beyond. He previously retired from the Portsmouth Fire Department in 2003 as the Battalion Chief, including service for 8 years as the city's Emergency Management Deputy Coordinator.

TOPIC:  ALL ABOUT DRONES - OPPORTUNITIES, THREATS, CHALLENGES AND RISKS

OUR SPEAKER:
Suzanne Novak, President & Owner- EURdyne, Inc. Commercial Drone Flight School
Our summer meeting, as usual, is informal and focuses on a topic that is both entertaining and educational.  Suzanne Novak joins us to discuss everything you wanted to know about drones - both generally and in the context of resilency and crisis management!  Her areas of expertise include Corporate Crisis Management and NextGen Business-driven, Tech-Focused Solutions for Homeland Security (UAS/Drones). Suzanne's background spans 30+ years of real-world emergency management and disaster response experience, working with all levels of government and the private sector.  For example, during hurricane Maria, she deployed a team of rapid responders, including a commercial drone pilot, to support a client's crisis management team, while providing additional remote support from ERUdyne's Business Resilience Center.  Suzanne promises to answer all your drone-related questions - and she'll bring a local commercial drone pilot and a few drones with her!
